Fall Festival Meal Service Volunteer OpportunityOur Fall Festival is almost here! Please help us serve dinner on this fun evening!

Volunteers will help with meal preparation, fill trays, hand out drinks, roll silverware, help with clean-up, and offer a face of compassion! 

Qualifications for this opportunity:

Volunteers at The Center for Women & Children must be female or accompanied by a female. Men can not volunteer on their own. If you are a man planning to volunteer on your own, please look for opportunities at the Shelter for Men or the Men's Residential Center.  Co-ed groups of up to 5 are welcome. If you are bringing your children with you, you are considered a team. Please respond as a team. There is only room for 5 volunteers at a time. You might be turned away if you are not registered for the shift. Volunteers should be outgoing with good interpersonal skills, can work independently, set and maintain boundaries, have a high degree of integrity, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate sound wisdom, and have a common-sense approach while interacting with guests & residents. Minors are welcome and must be accompanied by a parent or adult while serving. We prefer children to be 8 years and older. Plan to be flexible. Duties and shift duration can change depending on the needs of the staff.

The Center for Women and Children's After-School Care Program.

The Center for Women and Children is seeking volunteers to assist our Compass Kids staff with the after-school care program for elementary school students staying at the CWC. This program will provide moms with greater flexibility to schedule work or classes for themselves.

We are looking for volunteers who can serve on weekdays from 2:30–4:30 p.m. and who can help regularly. If you would like to learn more, click “Respond” and a staff member will contact you with additional details.

We are seeking volunteers to purchase, assemble, and deliver 100 sack lunches.

This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for your family, small group, or corporate team.

Sandwiches must be prepared in a commercial or church kitchen or include prepackaged items, like Uncrustables frozen peanut butter sandwiches. You are also welcome to donate the sandwich supplies for us to prepare or bring sandwich supplies and prepare them in our kitchen. If you want to use our kitchen, please mention this in the notes when registering. *You must deliver these lunches. We are not able to offer pickup.

What goes in the Sack Lunch?

A sandwich (PB&J, lunchmeat, etc.) - you can use a prepackaged PB&J sandwich if a commercial kitchen is not an option for youapple or orange chips or cookies granola bar fruit snack or candy drink like water or Gatorade, etc. Please prepare in a brown lunch sack with the date listed outside the bag. 

Where should I bring the lunches?

The Center for Women & Children at 3208 E. Michigan St., Indianapolis, IN 46201. Deliver the lunches to the door closest to Dearborn Street in the alley behind the building. If no one answers the buzzer, call 317-687-3630 to inform them you have arrived. 

When should I bring the lunches? 

You can deliver them anytime before 10:30 am on the day you chose when you registered.

Recreation times usually happen on Friday & Saturday evenings. We would love for you and your group to help make this time special for our guests. Here are some ways you can help do that.

Plan and provide an activity or two, like board games, Bingo, crafts, trivia, karaoke, or minute-to-win-it games, Bring snacks & the paper products to go with them. The ladies love snacks.Come ready to fellowship with the women! You may have around 40 women and maybe 1 or 2 kiddos.

 Qualifications for this opportunity:

Co-ed groups of up to 15 are welcome. Volunteers should be outgoing with good interpersonal skills, have the ability to work independently, set and maintain boundaries, have a high degree of integrity, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate sound wisdom, and have a common-sense approach while interacting with guests & residents. Men are not allowed to volunteer on their own without a female companion.  Minors are welcome and must be accompanied by a parent or adult while serving (Parents, please use your discernment when children are younger than 8 years old).

Entrance: Enter through the courtyard gate. Ring the doorbell to the left of the front door and let our staff know you are there to volunteer and how you are serving.THIS IS NEW! - Please place your bag on the bag scanner belt straight ahead of you. Bags of guests, visitors, and volunteers must all be scanned this way. This is for the safety of everyone in the building.To your right is a glass door. Our staff will let in. Proceed to the security area. Sign in and out by scanning the QR code near the front desk, with the app on your smartphone, the link in your email, or on the sign-in sheet.Groups and Youth   All individual volunteers are required to sign up online before serving. Individuals under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult and bring a signed parental waiver. We require 1 adult for every 5 youth under age 18.

Each of Wheeler’s residential locations has metal detectors and security cameras to ensure the protection of guests, volunteers, and staff. Please do not bring weapons into our facilities.

By signing up for this volunteer opportunity, you are agreeing to provide an entire meal for 100+ women and children. This meal should be prepared in a commercial kitchen or purchased from a restaurant. The Provide a Meal volunteer opportunity is perfect for families, organizations, or church groups. It’s a great way to make a difference and guarantee a warm meal for somebody in need.

The Center for Women and Children (CWC) serves lunch every weekday, brunch on Saturdays, and dinner 7 days per week.
